[ this is beginning to sound a lot more like Kylo Ren and Rey without the details. he can see the similarities.
then he busies his hands with the rest of the work. they're handrolls—bigger than sushi, but taking a tad less skill to make. he isn't that good at it yet, but something tells him that Catra will appreciate the meal regardless of how lumpy they may turn out. ]
Oh you know, the usual, blah blah "The Horde Is Bad," blah! That's not the point! The Horde being bad never mattered to her before!
[ Ren seems to have asked the right question to finally unlock the floodgates. Catra's really warming up to her subject now, getting into prime rant mode. ]
Y'know-- it's not like they're subtle about it! It was always "We're going to rule the world together, Catra," and then suddenly ruling the world is bad! Like, where does she get off acting so high and mighty?! She just up and decides one day that some rando she's never met is worth defecting for, over her best friend? Who even does that?!
Ugh! Why is that everyone's first go-to? Why should I have to leave my home just because she's a traitor? Why should I have to go crawling pathetically after someone who didn't give a second thought to me? It's always Adora Adora Adora! Adora always gets what she wants! Well, we can't all be secret long-lost princesses just waiting to be found by the Princess Alliance and welcomed with open arms!
[ there's no Metaverse here, but he knows that sort of talk. it sounds like a Shadow, someone who's desires could become warped into a Palace.
somehow, he doubts that this was as easy for Adora as Catra seems to think it was. ]
Ah ... I was thinking any place calling itself "the Horde" doesn't really sound ... cozy.
[ if Adora defected it was for a reason. ]
Leaving a place isn't always pathetic. Usually there's a reason people stay.
[ his fingers turn over the first handroll and it's—well, it's a thing. it's kinda lumpy and a little uneven. he refocuses and starts on the second one, and it looks a little better. ]
Yeah. It wasn't cozy. So what. Like I said, it never mattered to her before. Shadow Weaver treated me like dirt, every day of our lives. Never slow to remind both of us that I was only allowed the privilege of living because I was Adora's friend.
Why would I follow her to the Rebellion just to receive more of the same? Where it's "Adora is special and we all love her, and oh I guess we can tolerate you because she likes you, but actually we all really hate you" every damn day of the year?
There's no place for someone like me in the Rebellion. You have to be a Princess. At least in the Horde, I can advance now she's gone.
[ the third one turns out much, much better. after he's done, he pushes the plate toward her of three handrolls which all look like they're getting steadily better in execution. ]
What makes someone a princess?
[ he makes a motion with his hands over his head like a crown. ]
It might be hard to put on a crown on with your ears.
[ that doesn't really clear up much, but he feels like Catra's take is a little fractured. there's a layer of perspective over it that's in her tone and words. ]
I'm not sure I get what it means to be a Princess. [ ... ] But I think I get what you're saying.
[ there's a little bit extra, so he keeps making handrolls. ]
It's a title. Passed down through family from parent to child. The hereditary, royal rulers of each kingdom in Etheria. Usually comes with some kind of magic gift. That clear enough for you?

Date: 2020-06-27 09:14 pm (UTC)It sounds like a change of heart.
[ it seems less to have to do with Catra, and more to do with the circumstances surrounding their relationship. ]
Why did you stay with the Horde if she didn't?
